Queensberry Properties, the joint venture company between house builder Cruden and developer, Buccleuch Property has announced a new partnership with the UK’s leading luxury retirement village operator, Audley Retirement.
Currently operating 11 retirement villages across England – stretching from Devon to Yorkshire – Audley has identified Scotland’s central belt as an area for future growth and expansion, and working closely with local experts, Queensberry , is now looking for sites to develop in Scotland.
“We see this as a very exciting opportunity for both parties to come together and tap into a relatively unexploited market in Scotland. The retirement village concept will enable people to continue to live independently in their own homes, providing security and peace of mind, as well as a strong sense of community,” said Nick Waugh, director at Queensberry.
“Our partnership with Audley will provide people in Scotland, who are looking to enjoy their retirement years in a high quality environment and without the stresses of property upkeep and maintenance, with access to one of the UK’s most prestigious retirement village operators.
“With the proportion of people aged over 65 expected to increase by up to 24 per cent in the next 40 years, ensuring the delivery of top quality retirement developments is paramount. Audley continues to set the benchmark for quality living provision for the over 60s across England, and this combined with Queenberry’s experience, will result in the creation of some of the most impressive retirement projects in Scotland.”
The focus will initially be in Edinburgh / Glasgow only with sites for at least 80 units, incorporating a central building containing hotel-style facilities and on-site care.
Commenting on the new partnership, Nick Sanderson, chief executive at Audley Retirement said:
“Audley’s luxury retirement villages offer high quality houses, cottages and apartments, combined with leisure facilities akin to a country house hotel – all set within beautiful and secure locations. Together with access to care services as needs change, Audley villages provide the lifestyle a new generation of older people will expect and demand.
“This new venture with Queensberry Properties brings together the qualities and strengths of both Cruden and Buccleuch, who are already well-established in the Scottish property market, and will allow Audley to extend its footprint across the UK.”
