A new home for River Kids childrens’ charity

LivingstonRiver Kids has moved into a new home which sees the operations of the West Lothian childrens’ charity located under the one roof for the first time.  For the past thirty years, the charity has run the West Lothian Toy Appeal which raises money to buy toys for disadvantaged children in the area.

However, until the charity moved to their new premises at Livingston’s Michaelson Square, Kirkton Campus, it was working from two different locations.  This meant that staff and volunteers were travelling back and forth between the administrative offices in Livingston and the Uphall warehouse where the toys were stored.

Therefore Wendy Simpson, administrator for River Kids, was delighted when Buccleuch Property agreed to provide the charity with a much needed new home at great value.

“This represents a huge milestone in the development of the charity and allows us to plan effectively for future growth.  We will now be able to provide more support to disadvantaged children and their families across West Lothian.  It is particularly welcome this year as we celebrate the 30th year of the West Lothian Toy Appeal.”

Nick Waugh, commercial property director for Buccleuch Property, added that the company was pleased to be able to not only supply the charity with new premises, but to support such a worthwhile charity.

“River Kids bring much joy and happiness to thousands of disadvantaged children in the West Lothian area, particularly at Christmas.  It is satisfying for us to know that these knew premises will enable them to expand their services to even more deserving children.”

More about River Kids

  • The West Lothian Toy Appeal (WLTA) is one of a range of initiatives managed by River Kids – a registered charity that raises money for disadvantaged children across West Lothian. The WLTA provides toys at Christmas – and on special occasions – to those children identified, or referred to us, as being in most need of assistance. River Kids works with individuals and organizations such as Citizens Advice, Health Visitors, Social Workers, Family Centres and Homeless Units.
  • Last year, over 10,000 toys were distributed to children in West Lothian, across 450+ homes – and still we were not able to reach all those in need. We hope that in this, our 30th year of the Toy Appeal, we will be able to raise all the funds we need to support those children who need it most. River Kids is a charity registered I Scotland, Number SC 037312.
