Buccleuch Property Launches Challenge to Support The Yard

The YardBuccleuch Property has launched its annual Buccleuch Property Challenge at The Yard in Edinburgh, the only indoor and outdoor adventure play centre for disabled children and young people in the East of Scotland.  The charity is this year’s beneficiary of Buccleuch Property’s fundraising event which will take place on 6th September at the Duke of Buccleuch’s Drumlanrig Castle and Queensberry Estate.

Around 60 teams, made up of UK property professionals from as far afield as London and Aberdeen, will endure a six hour test of mental and physical endurance which will include mountain biking, orienteering and rowing together with a number of special stages.  The day will finish with a prize giving ceremony followed by a BBQ for all participants.

Last year the teams raised £17,000 raised for the Maggie’s Centre and in this, the seventh year of the Buccleuch Property Challenge, they are hoping to raise a similar amount for The Yard.   Celine Sinclair, Chief Executive of The Yard, says the money raised will make a huge difference to the disabled children and young people who use the facilities.  “For instance £10,000 would enable us to offer drop-in family sessions throughout the Easter Holidays while something in the region of £16,000 would mean we could set up a Young Adventurers Club.  This would promote independence for children aged 10 – 14 with complex additional needs offering them opportunities to make new friends, try new activities and most of all, have fun.”

David Peck, Managing Director, of Buccleuch Property says he is delighted that the proceeds from this year’s challenge will go to The Yard.  “We were very keen that the charity we supported this year was locally based in Edinburgh and that it helped children, so The Yard fitted the bill perfectly on both these counts.   I know that the money we raise will be used to enable even more children and young people to benefit from these excellent facilities.”
