Shawfair LLP is a joint venture between Buccleuch Property and house builder Mactaggart & Mickel Homes. The partnership is committed to bringing the new town of Shawfair to life via the largest urban expansion programme to date for Edinburgh and Midlothian.
The proposed development plans for Shawfair will revitalise the south east wedge of Edinburgh. It will deliver 4,000 new homes, business space, and retail outlets within a landscaped environment surrounding a new town centre and railway station.
Shawfair will be a self-sustaining community. As well as delivering quality new homes, residents will also benefit from two new primary schools, a secondary school, shops, new community and health centres, as well as an array of sports facilities.
Leading civil engineering contractor, Crummock, has been appointed to deliver a range of infrastructure works including upgrades to local roads, new street lighting and the construction of new footpaths and cycle routes.
House-building began in early 2017 south of the existing Danderhall community. This site will contain approximately 440 houses, to be built over the next three years by Bellway and Miller Homes. Mactaggart & Mickel Homes are also building 165 homes at Millerhill, roughly half of which are completed.
The total development value at Shawfair is anticipated to be around £1.2billion. It has the potential to directly support around 6,500 jobs, with net impact on economic output estimated at around £100 million per annum when complete.
