This has been enhanced further through the complete re-financing of the business in November 2021 through a Private Placement, putting in place long term, fixed cost, unsecured debt at very competitive rates.

Our continued success is also underpinned by our ability to play the long game in challenging economic cycles.

Collaborations

Partnerships and Joint Ventures are at the core of our culture and sit alongside our own directly managed projects. We are in the fortunate position to be able to financially partner businesses with innovative ideas and who will typically be specialists in their sector or location. This allows us to unlock new markets and entrepreneurial talent while generating improved returns to everyone’s benefit.

Our established residential partners include London based Native Land who specialise in prime mixed use development, Queensberry Properties, developers of high quality homes in the Scottish Central Belt, iMpeC Developments who are focused on the North East English land market and Litton Property who focus on commercial development and land promotion in Yorkshire and the Midlands. We have also recently completed our first acquisition with Packaged Living in the BTR sector.

Most recently, we have acquired a 50% shareholding in bloc, who have longstanding relationships with Network Rail and the Canal & River Trust and an increasingly active development portfolio with a particular focus on the BTR sector.

On the commercial side we have strong relationships with Cambridge based Wrenbridge who operate in the Midlands and South East industrial and logistic markets as well as Argon in the North East who focus on logistics and healthcare opportunities.

We have an active Strategic Land business with over 12,000 consented residential units with the largest projects being in partnership with Mactaggart & Mickel Group and Long Harbour.

Buccleuch has also been committed to the US for almost 20 years and has now co-invested with Boston based ELV Associates for 5 years with projects focussed on the Multi Family and Student markets along the Eastern Seaboard.

Environmental, Social and Governance

As a company we are passionate about creating inspiring spaces for people to live, work and enjoy their leisure time and consistently aim for the highest standards. We take our Environmental, Social and Governance commitments seriously and over the last few decades, have achieved a carbon zero rating for the Group as a whole while continually pushing to make further reductions.

We are part of an industry on a steep learning curve, not least in how it adopts different technologies but also in how it benchmarks performance and outputs. We are committed to the continual improvement of our overall impact with steps taken to date including:

  • We have achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ on most of our recent developments and now see this as a minimum standard for the future
  • The use of green technology is adopted wherever we can in both new developments and existing investments – this includes district heating schemes, PV roof panels, air source heat pumps, EV charging points, low carbon materials and battery storage
  • Working with occupiers to reduce energy use and improve EPC ratings to outperform required standards
  • Proactively engaging with local communities as we develop plans for new developments and throughout the planning process
  • Giving back where we can through an active charitable and volunteering programme including the renowned Buccleuch Property Challenge
  • Providing an inspiring place to work with a flexible, inclusive and supportive working culture.
